Ingredients
- Chicken Wings - Drummettes and wingettes work best for this recipe. These are also called "Party Wings".
- Baking Powder - Baking powder is a breading and makes the wings crispy.
- Seasoned Saltย - Great for that classic seasoned flavor. Alternatively, you can use regular table salt.
- Black Pepper
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder

How to make oven fried chicken wings
Step by step instructions:
- Add all of the seasonings and baking powder to a small bowl and mix.
- Next, pat the wings dry with paper towels and sprinkle the seasonings and baking powder mixture over the chicken. Toss the chicken until it is evenly coated.
- Arrange the chicken on a lined baking sheet, and bake at 425 degrees for 50 minutes. Flip the chicken over halfway through the cooking time.
- Remove from the oven, and serve with your favorite wing dipping sauces.

Recipe Tips
- Pat the wings dry with paper towels before seasoning them. This will ensure that the wings come out nice and crispy.
- Use aluminum-free baking powder. You cannot use baking soda instead of baking powder, as the wings will not taste the same.
Oven temperature and cook time
We are going to be baking these wings at 425 degrees to make sure they are nice and crispy. Cooking them at a high temperature ensures that the wings form a nice breaded coating.
At 425 degrees, they only take 50 minutes to bake. Just flip them over halfway through the cooking time so that both sides cook evenly.

Wing dipping sauce suggestions
Serve these chicken wings with celery sticks, and your favorite dipping sauces. Here are a few ideas:
- Buffalo Sauce - Toss the wings in buffalo sauce to make buffalo wings.
- Ranch - A classic dip for chicken wings.
- Blue Cheese - Another classic dip for chicken wings.
- Barbecue Sauce - You can toss or dip the wings in your favorite barbecue sauce.
These wings would be great with celery sticks, broccoli and cheese casserole, or broccoli salad. They could also be served alone as an appetizer.
FAQs
Coating wings in baking powder and cooking them at a high temperature creates a crispy breading on the outside of the wings.
Baking wings is a healthier option than deep frying wings in vegetable oil. It is possible to get crispy wings with both cooking methods.
Cornstarch is a better option if you are deep frying chicken wings, as it absorbs more moisture resulting in a crispy fried chicken wing. Baking powder is a better option when baking wings, as it provides a light breading that crisps up in the oven.

You nailed it!!! Best wings I have ever had. Is the spice from the baking powder?
Thank you, I'm so happy to hear that! I don't find these spicy, though if you're sensitive to spicy foods then maybe so.
Janet
My husband and son said these are the best wings they have ever tasted. I made a dip out of ranch dressing and hot sauce for them.

Absolutely delicious!! Best wings I've ever had.. wondering if you've tried this recipe woth boneless thighs?
Thank you, I'm so happy that you enjoyed them! And I haven't tried this with thighs, but you may just need to adjust the cooking time.

These were yummy, but most of mine stuck to the foil, so I lost some of the skin. Do you spray the pan, or maybe I should try the parchment paper next time...? I cooked them for 25 minutes on the first side, but they only needed a few more once flipped. And these were average sized wings.
I actually don't spray the pan, but that would be fine. And yes try parchment paper next time. I used it last time I made them, and they did not stick. I'm so happy that you enjoyed them. Thank you!
Barbara
These were fantastic! My husband and I both loved them. I'm amazed how much they tasted like fried chicken after using so little "batter." This is a keeper!
Katie
I have these in the oven as we speak. Mine also stuck to the foil so next time I'll use parchment paper. But I found the flipped easier with 27 minutes on one side. I'm making bbq and honey garlic! Happy new years!!!

We have made them before and they are fantastic-making them tomorrow as well! I always trim off the excess fat first and that really matters! Also, I cook the drums 10โmin lingers than the flats!

I've always made oven fried wings with baking powder but I would spray the wings with oil before putting in the oven. This time I followed your instructions as is, perfect. The spray isn't necessary. The husband enjoyed them. Thank you for sharing your recipe.

I followed the recipe except I placed the wings on top of a wire baking rack and turned them after about 25 minutes. I baked them for about 10 minutes longer, and they were very crispy. This is now my go to recipe for wings. I like this method better than the air fryer recipes that Iโve tried.
Barbara
We make them regularly now. Best wings at home ever. I do have to double the coating recipe, and mine only take about 40 minutes.
Beth
I love this recipe! I'm not on any special diet, but just decided to give this a try last year and it's DELICIOUS. I think I've made these wings over 20 times, mixing up the seasoning each time. Easy to follow recipe, perfectly crispy baked wings. Our favorite is Old Bay seasoning.

Would placing the wings on a baking rack work? If so, would turning them be necessary? THANKS!
Yes, placing the wings on the baking rack works. You shouldn't have to turn them. I hope that you enjoy! Thank you!
