Here's what you'll need to make this easy cabbage and sausage:
- Cabbage โ For this recipe, we'll be using green cabbage.
- Andouille or Smoked Sausage โ You could also use kielbasa or turkey sausage. I typically use smoked andouille sausage
- Garlic & Onion โ These add great flavor and aromatics!
- Olive Oil โ Adds richness and extra flavor.
- Salt & Black Pepper โ I like to keep the seasonings simple so that the natural taste of the cabbage and sausage gets to shine.
- Chicken Broth โ Adds an extra depth of flavor, and softens the cabbage while cooking.
Instructions
Step by step instructions:

- Step 1: Brown the sausage in a large skillet. Remove from the pan and set aside.

- Step 2: Add a tablespoon of butter to the same skillet. Add the diced onions and saute for 2 minutes. Then add the garlic and continue to saute for another 30 seconds.

- Step 3: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet and season it with salt and pepper. Pour in the chicken broth Stir, and allow the cabbage to cook for about 5 minutes.

- Step 4: Add the sausage back to the skillet with the cabbage, and mix until everything is combined. Cook until cabbage is tender.

- Swap of the Sausage - You could use kielbasa, smoked sausage, Italian sausage, turkey sausage, or even chorizo.
- Add more vegetables - Toss in sliced bell peppers, shredded carrots, or zucchini for added color and flavor.

Ingredients
- 1 head of cabbage, chopped
- 12 ounces beef smoked sausage
- olive oil
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup chicken broth
Instructions
- Slice the sausage into half-inch rounds, and add them to a large skillet over medium-high heat. Saute until browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet, and set aside on a plate.
- Reduce heat to medium low. Then, add the diced onions to the skillet and saute for 3 minutes. Add the minced garlic to the skillet with the onions and saute for another 2 minutes.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped cabbage, and season with salt and pepper. Pour the chicken broth into the skillet with the cabbage. Mix everything until combined. Allow the cabbage to simmer for about 10 minutes, or desired tenderness.
